Chocolate Fudge Sheet Cake

My mom has made this cake for our birthdays our entire life. It is so delicious. It is the perfect amount of “richness.” A wonderful blend of chocolate cake and fudge (hence the name). It should only take you about an hour total!

What you need for the cake:

  • 2 c flour
  • 2 c sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 c butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 c water
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 top soda
  • 1/2 c buttermilk (1/2 c milk + 1 1/2 tsp vinegar- mix and allow to sit 15 minutes)
  • 1 tsp vanilla

What you need for the frosting:

  • 1/2 c butter
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa
  • 6 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 lb box powdered sugar

Sift together flour, sugar, and salt. In another bowl mix eggs, soda, buttermilk, and vanilla.

Put butter, water, and cocoa in a saucepan- bring to a boil and pour over flour mixture.

Then add the egg mixture to flour/chocolate mixture and mix well.

Pour into greased and floured 15x10x1 pan. Bake at 350 for 15-30 minutes.

While it’s cooking mix the butter, cocoa, and milk in saucepan. Heat over low heat. DO NOT BOIL. Remove from heat, add sugar and vanilla. Blend. Pour frost over while the cake is still warm.
